Im looking to buy axles. I found a guy with a '74 cherokee(sj). It has a dana 44 in the front and an AMC 20 in the rear. Is there any reason I shouldnt buy these two axles.

1974-78 ford high pinion 44
i personally like the high pinion better

How wide is the high pinion axle, I would think that a full size truck axle would be a bit wider then ~70in.

the 74 f150 hp i had was 65-1/2 wms to wms or you could take the full size and cut it down to match the waggy width and use the waggy inner axle

wheel mounting surface , basically the width of the axle the from the outside of the drivers side rotor to the passenger side rotor

so for example your rear axle is 59" wms to wms the waggy front is 60.5 wms to wms

Ya i figured that out, i think that im just going to replace both front and rear with waggy axles so that i dont have to get into chopping axles downt. Ill post when i buy something.

Hey I was trying to think of a budget estimate, and while doing this i remembered that i have a slip yoke on the t-case. Do i need to buy a Calmini slip yoke kit, i know that its $300 so i was wondering if it would be cheaper and still effective to replace it with a longer single peice shaft.

They still list them on there site, would replacing it with a single piece shaft work, or do i even need to with that amount of lift?

We'll probably never see SYE or Gears again like penski was saying.

They haven't had them in stock for over 2 years.

I'm looking at a 1990 xj wagoneer, this axle should be 60 inches wms to wms? It is a hundred mile drive which in Montana isnt bad but before I drive there I'd like to know what to expect. Also people have said that on vehicles with quadratrac the rear differential isn't in exactly in the center of the axle is that true, and if it is how much of a problem is it?

An XJ is a cherokee. Are you looking at a Cherokee or a Wagoneer?

Its a Wagoneer but its not the full sized grand wagoneer, its called an xj wagoneer. Here is the link to it  (   http://bozeman.craigslist.org/cto/3167323325.html  )

Yeah, thats basically a cherokee.

You don't want that axle. It's a D30 up front which in inadequate.

Ok trying to find a ten year range of one vehicle in a state with a third as many people as there are in San Diego, is almost impossible.

I've been hearing this a lot lately. people not being able to find Grand Wagoneer D44 axles.
 of course you can always build a Diamond  Grin

what size tires and what kind of wheeling/How hard to you plan on beating on this rig?

As of now my truck has a rough country lift that uses uca's and a longer back shackle. The biggest problem i have is a lack of a locking differental, now i realize i could put a locker into it as it sits. But eventually I would want to do the axle swap, so instead of spending money on something that is going to be replaced in the end I would rather do it now. It however also has to be driveable everday on the road, so it wouldn't get the hell beat out of it. I was planning on building the truck to run 35's. I know 3 link is superior, but just for the moment I was planning on using leaf springs in the front just for simplicity. In the front I was thinking about using either a Arb air locker or one of these new electric lockers, and in the back i was going to use a detroit locker.

I decided to expand how far im searching into neghiboring states and i found a few grand waggys that would be good donors.
