There is a trail that leaves from within Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and heads west over the mountains into Pahrump.  Then you can drive north(maybe be dirt) and return by going over Walker Pass.

The Red Rock trail:  http://www.americansouthwest.net/maps/red-rock-canyon-map.gif  ITs the road that leave from the Willow Springs Picnic area.  Goes into Lost Creek Canyon and turn lefts into Red Rock Canyon.  I have done the first part of the trail but didn't leave the park.  Was to hot in August to go at it alone.

Video on Wheeler Pass:  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-115675295219226467#

When I did the Pass it was thanksgiving and cold.  We went up from the Pahrump side and when going down the vegas side we ran into a few wild horses.

yes,
I was thinking about that a few weeks ago.
I'll be up for planning after summer fest this weekend.

I wanted to go to swamp lake but it is a good drive and we didn't get to pre run it this last trip so .... i don't think it'll be a safe option right now.

I'll go back though this thread and put together a list of options that have already been mentioned

After doing some more research it looks like there is primitive camping in the area.  So this might just workout nicely.

Anybody else have any input?

the place or who's hosting?
I though that it was assumed that i was going to do it this year and i asked Dom to do it.
I apologize if I'm wrong. is there other planning or something that's going on that i wasn't aware of?
It's really getting down to the wire and we need to get this going very very soon.

The place is still open of discussion as well.

It needs to be open to everybody.  I have been here wondering why nobody is posting in either of the 2 threads that are going.  I was about to say screw it, didn't think anybody wanted to go.   Can this thread and the other one be opened up please.

Prairie City near Sacramento... never been there but hear good things and would be centrally located and easy access via I-5, 99 and I-80....

from a vegas local , that wheels quite a bit
"Potato ridge/rocky gap is cool because it is a three (only because of a short section that is hard) with plenty of optional obstacles that make it a 4-5.
Tie rod canyon is a 4 give or take .5 depending on what flood water has done to it.
All the trails up here are legal to run without any type of permit so long as you are street legal. There is some discrepancy as to whether tie rod canyon is still legally open or not, but all the local clubs continue to run it.

Logandale has a bunch off cool trails/dunes ..... about an hour drive from vegas.

Apex is basically just dunes ..... it is a cool place to mess around. 30 min from vegas."

Just a thought - how about the West "Coast" Meet actually be in a state that has a "Coast" this year? Smiley

calico.

difficult trails, moderate trails, to 2wd friendly trails. lots of exploring to be had, lots of space, no permits. not too far west or south.
