Title: Newbie with a bad pinion bearing Post by: jedavisss8 on April 02, 2014, 07:11:47 PM Hi All -
Have a '95 Pathfinder 4x4, LSD, auto. The pinion bearing is going south. I could: Have my local shop rebuild the diff ($850) Try to do it myself (about $500 for the whole kit, and I've never done this) Get a replacement diff from a junkyard - not as reliable but a lot cheaper Question: what axle ratio do I have? 4.625 or 4.636. Tag on the front fender says HG46. Any help is appreciated. The whine is getting to me. p.s. - that's whine, not wine. Computer showed it has either 4.375 (hg43) or 4.625(hg46). Plate on the fender says hg46.

Also I thought I told you about the axle code on the fender. Sorry if i didn't! :cover: Title: Re: Newbie with a bad pinion bearing Post by: jedavisss8 on April 05, 2014, 09:38:27 AM Hey Steve -
I'm finding a number of used differentials on Ebay which have rear disc brakes. I realize I probably would need to get the calipers and pads and maybe a longer or shorter brake line, and the correct master cylinder. Are there any other issues with doing this swap? Also, finding some diffs that are not lsd. Advantages/disadvantages of not having lsd off-road? Just got the rig out of the shop for a check out and fuel leak. Found out I also need both front axles as the boots on both are shredded. :hit: Title: Re: Newbie with a bad pinion bearing Post by: SteeevO on April 09, 2014, 05:28:46 PM if I remember right the existing brake line is long enough.
LSD is preferable off road. unless you're planning on putting a locker in. |
